Abstract Collage- From painted paper to final composition with Fiona Hodges

Join us for a full-day, hands-on workshop exploring the expressive potential of abstract collage.

You will start with creating your own unique collage papers using a range of mixed media techniques—painting, mark-making, and texturing. These papers will become the foundation for your final artwork.

Then we will cover the art of abstract composition. You’ll learn how to approach layout, balance, layering, and contrast. The day concludes with the creation of your own finished abstract or semi-abstract collage using the papers you designed in the morning, along with further papers and images brought by your tutor.

This workshop is suitable for all levels—no previous collage or painting experience is needed.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available during short comfort breaks throughout the session. There will be also be a short lunch break in the middle of the class, so please bring your lunch with you, or pop out to one of our local delis to treat yourself.

All materials will be provided. If you have any collage papers you have already created, perhaps at one of our gelli printing workshops, and you would like to use those please bring them with you.
